WANA (May 03) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned recent Israeli military attacks on various parts of Syria, including the bombing and destruction of civilian infrastructure and defensive capabilities in Damascus, Latakia, Idlib, Hama, Quneitra, and Daraa.

In a statement, Esmail Baghaei, referring to the repeated aggressions by the Israeli regime and its targeting of Syria’s strategic assets and both military and civilian infrastructure—as well as its continued occupation of Syrian territory—emphasized that it has become evident to all that the primary objective of the occupying regime is to dismantle and destroy Syria’s defensive, economic, and infrastructural capacities as an independent state.

This, he said, is aimed at enabling Israel to pursue its malicious ambitions in Syria and the broader region, while simultaneously continuing its genocide in occupied Palestine and its aggression and occupation in Lebanon.

Baghaei reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s firm and principled position on the necessity of preserving Syria’s territorial integrity, dignity, and national sovereignty as an independent country and a civilized nation that plays a key role in the security and stability of the critical West Asia region.

He further reminded all parties involved in the current situation in Syria of their responsibility for enabling Israeli exploitation and expansionism in the country.

Baghaei stressed that halting Israel’s aggression and military provocations against Syria requires immediate and effective action by the international community, particularly regional states.

He called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to utilize its available mechanisms to compel the UN Security Council to fulfill its duties in the face of Israel’s violations of international law and breaches of peace.
