Araghchi’s Explanation of His Visit to Pakistan
WANA (May 05) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said the situation in the South Asian region is of great importance to Iran, and emphasized that Iran seeks to reduce tensions and prevent their escalation in this area.
Speaking upon his arrival in Islamabad on Sunday evening, Araghchi responded to questions about the goals of his trip and rising tensions in South Asia. He stressed that the region’s stability matters to Iran, and Tehran is pursuing efforts to de-escalate the situation.
He stated that during this visit, he would hold close consultations with his counterparts in Pakistan and, according to the schedule, meet with the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of Pakistan. “In these meetings, we will discuss regional issues as well as bilateral relations,” he noted.
The Iranian Foreign Minister added that Iran hopes to move forward on a better path with Pakistan.
Araghchi went on to say that the relationship between Iran and Pakistan is highly significant—just as ties with other regional countries, including India, are also important.
The senior Iranian diplomat concluded by saying, “We are working toward a reduction of tensions in the region.”

As part of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and strengthen ties with its neighbors, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is scheduled to visit India and Pakistan.
This trip comes at a time when South Asia is once again facing a security crisis, and relations between the two regional nuclear powers—India and Pakistan—have become increasingly fragile.
In the recent Kashmir crisis, Iran once again demonstrated—through its offer of mediation—that it can play the role of a responsible, balanced, and trustworthy actor in the region’s complex dynamics.
Although achieving lasting peace requires genuine will from both New Delhi and Islamabad, Tehran’s initiative could pave the way for the start of diplomatic dialogue and help prevent the escalation of dangerous tensions.
