WANA (May 14) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to claims of a deadlock in the indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, saying: “Such ups and downs are normal in any negotiation process, especially in talks as sensitive as this one between two sides with a long history of mutual distrust.”

Esmaeil Baghaei, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, was asked about the ongoing negotiations and the speculation surrounding them. He said, “The very fact that the negotiations were held and both sides emphasized the continuation of talks indicates that the negotiation process is set to continue.”

Regarding the timing and location of the fifth round of talks, Baghaei stated: “The Omani Foreign Ministry, acting as a mediator and facilitator in these talks, will announce the time and place of the next round in coordination with both us and the American side. Consultations are ongoing to determine a mutually suitable time.”

Addressing claims of a deadlock, he reiterated: “Such fluctuations can occur in any negotiation, especially in one this delicate between parties who have a deep-rooted mistrust of one another.”

Baghaei added: “Given the history of the U.S. breaking its commitments, and the contradictions we see between their words and actions, Iran has every right to proceed with suspicion and extraordinary caution. However, since we are fully confident in the legitimacy of our position—based on international law, the demands of the Iranian people, and our rational approach to the nuclear issue—we will continue on this path with strength. We will respond to the moves of the other side in line with our principled positions.”
