Iran Calls for Immediate End to Violence in Tripoli
WANA (May 15) – The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has voiced deep concern over the continuation of armed clashes in Tripoli, the capital of Libya, which have resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries. In a statement issued on Thursday, Esmail Baghaei called for an immediate cessation of violence and bloodshed.
Referring to the responsibility of all parties involved in the conflict, Baghaei stated: “All sides involved in these clashes bear responsibility for helping restore calm.”
He added: “They must place the broader interests and welfare of the Libyan people above all else, adopt the path of dialogue and engagement to resolve their differences, and prevent destructive foreign interference and exploitation of Libya’s developments.”
The senior Iranian diplomat also expressed sympathy and solidarity with the families of the victims and those injured in the recent violence.
Iran has repeatedly emphasized its support for a peaceful, Libyan-led political solution and warned against the dangers of foreign meddling in the country’s internal affairs.
