Iran Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Yemeni Ports
WANA (May 17) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei has strongly condemned Israel’s recent airstrikes on key Yemeni ports, describing the attacks as a clear indication of the regime’s aggressive and criminal nature. He called the strikes a new link in what he termed “an endless chain of crimes against Muslim nations in the region.”
Baqaei emphasized that the attacks on Yemen’s economic infrastructure and public facilities—specifically the ports of Hudaydah, Ras Isa, and Al-Salif—constitute a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
“These are not only war crimes but also crimes against humanity,” he said. “These strikes come at a time when the people of Yemen are under siege and facing compounded humanitarian suffering. Targeting their vital infrastructure is a barbaric attempt to deprive them of basic necessities.”
The spokesman also criticized the continued support of the United States, the United Kingdom, and other Western governments for Israel’s actions in Gaza and the broader region.
“There is no doubt that the unconditional support offered by the U.S., Britain, and some other Western countries has emboldened the Israeli regime to persist in its lawlessness, aggression, and the massacre of defenseless Palestinian women and children—and now, the oppressed people of Yemen,” Baqaei said. “These governments are directly complicit and must be held accountable before the global public.”
Baqaei went on to sharply rebuke the United Nations Security Council for its inaction and passive silence in response to the attacks, calling it a sign of the body’s deteriorating moral and legal authority.
Extending condolences to the families of Yemeni civilians killed in what he called repeated Israeli military assaults, Baqaei urged the Islamic world to rise to its moral and legal responsibilities.
“The Muslim world must stand united against the Zionist regime’s expansionism and warmongering. Continued silence will only increase regional insecurity and pose a serious threat to global peace,” he warned.
