WANA (May 18) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the recent wave of Israeli attacks on Gaza, denouncing them as war crimes and urging the international community to take immediate action to halt what he described as ethnic cleansing and ongoing impunity for Israeli leaders.

In a statement delivered Saturday night, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei referred to the continued “unprecedented atrocities” committed by Israel against the defenseless people of Gaza and the West Bank.

He particularly denounced the recent bombings of temporary shelters for displaced civilians and medical centers in Gaza, which have left hundreds dead or injured in recent days.

Baghaei held Israel’s Western backers, particularly the United States and the United Kingdom, directly responsible for enabling the attacks through their political and military support.

“The occupying regime, after sabotaging mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire, has now escalated its criminal attacks in an attempt to forcibly displace the population of Gaza and impose its illegitimate demands,” Baghaei said. “This aggression will undoubtedly be met with the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people.”

He warned that the normalization of such blatant violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in Gaza and the West Bank constitutes an irreversible catastrophe for the United Nations system and the framework of international law.

Baghaei concluded by stressing that every state — along with the UN Secretary-General — has a legal and moral obligation to take urgent and meaningful action to stop the genocide and crimes against humanity being committed in the occupied territories.
