Iran Likely to Supply Air Defense Missiles to Syria
WANA (Feb 23) – In a news broadcast today February 24th, Iranian state television revealed part of the agreements between the Iranian Defense Minister and the commanders of the Syrian Air Force and Air Defense Forces. It is stated in this report that the agreements between the two countries include the sale of defense equipment and the deployment of the 15 Khordad system in Syria.
News of this agreement comes just days after an Israeli air raid on the Syrian capital of Damascus caused 5 deaths. The attack was condemned worldwide as the Syrian nation was reeling from the devastating earthquake on its border with Turkey that has left many in the region stranded.
The “15 Khordad” surface-to-air missile defense system is one of Iran’s most capable defense batteries, and the system has proven effective in destroying airborne targets in its tests.
