Protest against inappropriate hijab
WANA (Feb 26) – Gathering of women in front of the parliament to show their anger because of the “inappropriate and un-Islamic hijab in the streets”.
A number of women gathered in front of the parliament to protest the “current state of inappropriate Hijab” in society.
Since the street riots in recent months in Iran, the status of women’s hijab has changed to some extent.
It is a fact that a significant number of women want to abolish the mandatory hijab law in Iran. But it does not mean that they agree with appearing in public and wearing inappropriate clothing.
It is a fact that a significant number of women want to abolish the mandatory hijab law in Iran. But it does not mean that they agree with appearing in public and wearing inappropriate clothing.
With the help of western media, the voices of the opponents of hijab are always heard louder, but this does not mean that they are in the majority in Iranian society.
Of course, the Iranian government, as an Islamic government, agrees to observe hijab based on Sharia law. The government’s effort is not to rule contrary to Sharia. But what we are witnessing these days in the cities is the insistence of many Iranian families to observe hijab by their daughters and husbands. They don’t want to fully follow the Western dress code.
In the past months, there were no cases of girls being arrested in the streets because of non-Islamic clothing. Not a single case of arrest due to inappropriate hijab has been reported.
There are no moral police in the streets and no girls are warned for wearing western style clothes. Even we don’t see radical groups that deal harshly with women unveiled.
In the streets of different cities, women without hijab are freely doing social activities, but they are occupying a small percentage in the streets, and women who observe Islamic hijab are still in the majority.
