A Memorable Night in Damascus
WANA (Dec 02) – The Iranian Foreign Minister’s one-day visit to Syria, amid the country’s sensitive developments, carried a distinct atmosphere. During this trip, Seyed Abbas Araqchi not only engaged in diplomatic meetings but also experienced a special night in Damascus that gained widespread attention on social media.
After meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to discuss terrorist group movements and bilateral relations, Araqchi visited the shrine of Lady Ruqayyah (SA). He then dined at a restaurant in the “Mezze” district, enjoying Damascus’ famous shawarma alongside local residents.
While terrorists in recent days have been engaging in operational and media showmanship in Aleppo, Abbas Araghchi was seen in one of Damascus’s restaurants enjoying Syrian shawarma alongside officials of the Syrian government.
This meaningful scene reflects Iran’s role in bringing calm to one of the key Arab nations within the Axis of Resistance and demonstrates Iran’s determination and resolve to defend the Syrian people, government, army, and President Bashar al-Assad. Following Araghchi’s visit, terrorists should brace themselves for field developments and aggressive maneuvers on the ground.
He wrote on the social media platform X: “After an important meeting with the Syrian President and a fulfilling visit to the shrine of Lady Ruqayyah (SA), we enjoyed authentic Damascus shawarma at Dajajati Restaurant. Shawarma is available everywhere, but Damascus shawarma is something else entirely. Wish you were here…”
Araqchi’s informal presence at a public restaurant, given Syria’s current circumstances and the resurgence of terrorist groups, drew significant attention. Many social media users interpreted this gesture as a sign of solidarity with the Syrian people.
A Plate of Diplomacy
WANA (Oct 23) – Sometimes, politics is shaped more over a plate of food than at negotiation tables or official meetings. “Food Diplomacy” refers precisely to this concept: a method used by countries to soften relations and capture the attention of the world, with politicians utilizing it to reduce tensions and build new bridges. Araqchi’s visit to Damascus underscored Tehran’s continued support for the Syrian government and people. Before departing, he had told reporters, “We firmly support the Syrian army and government.”
On Monday morning, following the conclusion of his visit to Syria, the Iranian Foreign Minister arrived in Ankara to meet with Turkish officials.
