America: Partner in Genocide and Perpetuator of the Nakba
WANA (May 16) – Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, marked the anniversary of the Nakba at a special UN session by condemning the ongoing crimes committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people, calling them a clear instance of genocide and holding the United States fully complicit in these atrocities.
Speaking on Thursday at the UN special session commemorating the Nakba, Iravani pointed to Israel’s targeted bombings and said: “As we gather here today, the Israeli regime, with the support and assistance of the United States, is deliberately targeting hospitals, schools, women, children, UN staff, journalists, and others. These attacks have so far led to the deaths of nearly 60,000 people, with countless more wounded or missing.”
The senior Iranian diplomat added: “The evidence of these heinous crimes is undeniable. The international community, the International Court of Justice, and other competent legal bodies are well aware of the scope of this brutality.”
Iravani emphasized that this is only part of the documentation exposing the ongoing Nakba and the immense physical and psychological suffering the Palestinian people have endured for decades.
He also addressed the battle over narratives, calling it a second layer of injustice against Palestinians: “For decades, the Palestinian people have faced another form of injustice—false narratives disseminated by the Israeli regime and its supporters, particularly the United States. These narratives attempt to swap the roles of victim and perpetrator. They speak hypocritically of peace while escalating genocide and aggression. They invoke human rights while being the grossest violators of them. They talk about freedom of speech yet silence the innocent voices calling for an end to the slaughter. They claim to support the free flow of information while whitewashing Israel’s horrific crimes.”
Reaffirming the Palestinian people’s right to legitimate self-defense and return to their homeland, Iravani stated: “The Israeli regime and its backers are the main culprits behind the displacement of millions of Palestinians, the orphaning of children, the mourning of families, and the destruction of everyday life in Palestine. They are the primary source of catastrophe and instability in the region.”
He concluded with a stark warning: “While the international community has repeatedly called for an end to Israel’s attacks on Palestinians, the regime and its allies continue to intensify these crimes—emboldened by the illusion of impunity and protected by false narratives and propaganda.”
