Araghchi Engages Pakistan Ahead of India Visit
WANA (May 05) – Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, accompanied by a high-level delegation, arrived in Islamabad on an official visit and was received by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Bilateral Talks Begin Following Warm Welcome
Shortly after his arrival, Araghchi held a private meeting with his Pakistani counterpart, which was followed by formal discussions between the senior delegations of the two countries. The talks were co-chaired by Araghchi and Senator Dar.
Pakistan Commends Iran’s Diplomatic Efforts
Senator Dar expressed gratitude for Araghchi’s visit, especially at a sensitive time in regional affairs, stating, “We thank our brother Mr. Araghchi for visiting Islamabad at this critical juncture.” He reaffirmed the longstanding solidarity between the two nations.
Referring to the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, Dar said Pakistan was fully aware of Iran’s intensive diplomatic engagements and continued to monitor the talks closely. He added that Pakistan supports all efforts aimed at resolving regional issues and wished Iran success in its negotiations with the U.S.

In a statement issued after the meeting, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Iran-Pakistan relations. They agreed to expand collaboration in vital sectors such as trade, energy, and regional connectivity.
Araghchi conveyed greetings from Iran’s leadership and reiterated Tehran’s readiness to deepen bilateral ties with Islamabad.
Shared Cultural and Religious Heritage Highlighted
Senator Dar welcomed the Iranian delegation and underscored the deep-rooted cultural, religious, and historical bonds uniting the two neighbors. He lauded the positive momentum in bilateral relations and called for expanding cooperation on issues such as trade, border security, and regional communication networks.
Condemnation of Terrorism and Emphasis on Peace
Dar emphasized Pakistan’s consistent condemnation of terrorism in all forms and highlighted his country’s front-line role and sacrifices in combating extremism.

Both sides exchanged views on the shifting dynamics in South Asia and the Iran-U.S. indirect talks. They agreed that complex issues can be best resolved through diplomatic dialogue. Araghchi and Dar appreciated each other’s constructive roles in regional diplomacy, calling them a reflection of shared commitment to peace and stability.
The two ministers agreed to maintain the momentum of bilateral relations through continued high-level interactions and enhanced cooperation across multiple sectors.

“My visit to Pakistan today has three main goals: First, to review the latest developments in the region, especially what has occurred and is unfolding between India and Pakistan,” Araghchi said.
He added: “Both countries are our friends, but of course, Pakistan is our neighbor and brotherly country. I wanted to be informed of the positions of our friends in Pakistan before heading to India.”
Araghchi continued: “The second goal is to brief our friends on the latest status of the negotiations between Iran and the United States. And finally, the third goal is to review bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan.”
In conclusion, the senior Iranian diplomat said: “We have a number of issues in the political, economic, and cultural spheres, which we reviewed today and will continue to address in our future meetings, God willing.”

Araghchi’s Meeting with Pakistani PM
Following the talks, Araghchi met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office, delivering personal greetings from Iranian leaders. During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered condolences over the Bandar Shahid Rajaee incident, expressed sympathy with the victims’ families, and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
He conveyed warm greetings to Ayatollah Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, emphasizing Pakistan’s deep-rooted ties with Iran and its commitment to regional peace and development.
Sharif expressed serious concern over rising South Asia tensions after the Pahalgam incident and firmly rejected any attempt to link Pakistan to the event without evidence. He said Pakistan has proposed a transparent, impartial, and credible international investigation.
According to the PM’s office, Araghchi conveyed greetings from President Pezeshkian, reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to stronger ties, and renewed the Iranian president’s invitation for an official visit to Tehran later this year.
