WANA (Nov 05) – In response to Ukrainian President Zelensky’s recent comments denying that Iran has sent missiles to Russia, Iran’s Foreign Minister criticized the European Union’s sanctions against Iranian airlines.

In a post on X, he stated: “The EU has recently targeted ordinary Iranian and non-Iranian travelers by banning our airlines from Europe, citing the baseless claim that Iran has supplied ballistic missiles to Russia for use in Ukraine.”

He added, “Now, even President Zelensky himself has explicitly stated that no Iranian missiles have been delivered to Russia.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized, “It’s time for the EU to end this charade. Targeting innocent Iranian citizens based on an entirely unfounded accusation is unethical and a clear mistake that must be rectified immediately.”

Last week, following the Nordic Council meeting in Iceland, Zelensky remarked in a press conference, “According to our information, Iran has not yet sent missiles to Russia.”

Western nations, particularly European ones, have imposed extensive sanctions on Iran over alleged missile supplies to Russia, which are purportedly intended for use in the Ukraine conflict. The sanctions include restrictions on three Iranian airlines.

Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, also addressed Zelensky’s statements in a weekly press conference, saying: “These comments should be a reference point for the accuracy and honesty of other claims made in this matter over the past year or two.”

He continued, “Unfortunately, and not for the first time, U.S. officials have raised similar allegations. Based on these groundless claims, sanctions were imposed against the Iranian people, including our civil aviation sector. This only serves to harm ordinary Iranians—precisely what we mean when we refer to the EU and U.S. sanctions as unjust.”
