WANA (Jan 04) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced Tehran’s readiness to engage in constructive and prompt negotiations over its nuclear program. Speaking to China’s CCTV, he stressed that Iran’s approach remains rooted in the framework of the JCPOA: building trust regarding its nuclear activities in exchange for lifting sanctions. Araghchi stated that the new U.S. administration must clarify its policies, and Iran will respond accordingly.

Labeling the U.S. withdrawal from the JCPOA as a “strategic mistake,” he highlighted that diplomacy remains a viable path despite the region’s complexities. He underscored that with sufficient political will, diplomatic solutions can still be reached.

He also stated that one round of negotiations with European countries has already taken place. The second round has been scheduled and will be held with three European countries within the next two weeks.

Developments in Syria: Policy Based on Actions

Araghchi stated that Iran’s policy toward Syria will be shaped by the actions of the transitional government. Emphasizing Iran’s commitment to stability in Syria, he called for the preservation of the country’s territorial integrity and for ensuring Syria does not become a safe haven for terrorists. He urged regional countries to collaborate in forming an inclusive government representing all ethnicities and groups.

Improved Iran-Saudi Relations and China’s Role

The foreign minister noted steady progress in Iran-Saudi relations, with both sides satisfied with the resumption of diplomatic ties. He highlighted the untapped potential for cooperation between the two nations. Araghchi praised China’s constructive role in fostering regional stability and welcomed its efforts to strengthen economic and political ties with Iran.

Prepared to Counter Israeli Threats

Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s full readiness to counter any renewed threats from Israel, cautioning that such actions could spark a widespread war. He criticized Israel’s failure to achieve its objectives in Gaza, pointing out that despite aiming to dismantle Hamas, Israel is now negotiating a ceasefire with the group.

Iran, he added, supports any ceasefire agreement accepted by Hamas and the Palestinian people, emphasizing that the decision ultimately lies with them. He urged the global community to pressure Israel and its allies, including the U.S., to halt their ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

Bright Future for Resistance and Hezbollah’s Role

The foreign minister described the future of resistance movements as promising, citing Hezbollah’s ongoing efforts to rebuild itself. He also highlighted Hezbollah’s significant political and social influence in Lebanon, which continues to grow.

High-Level Iran-China Cooperation

Araghchi hailed his recent visit to China as a testament to the strategic partnership between the two nations. He pointed to frequent high-level exchanges, including a recent meeting of their presidents in Kazan, Russia, as evidence of robust bilateral ties.

He noted that Iran and China maintain close consultations on regional and international issues. During his four-hour meeting with China’s foreign minister, discussions focused on regional developments and strategies for collaborative responses.

Araghchi concluded by emphasizing the importance of ongoing economic, cultural, and political cooperation, signaling Iran’s commitment to deepening ties with Beijing.
