WANA (Jan 29) – In a press briefing following today’s cabinet meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, shed light on his recent trip to Afghanistan and addressed rumors about a potential message being sent from the United States to Iran.

Araghchi explained that during his visit, key issues were discussed with the Afghan government, including the situation of Afghan nationals in Iran, border security, the protection of Shiites within Afghanistan, trade security, drug trafficking, the presence of terrorist groups, and the matter of water rights.

“These are significant challenges that require dialogue and engagement with the Afghan government, and it is essential to address them,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.

Regarding the possibility of receiving a message from the U.S., Araghchi firmly stated, “We have not received any specific message from the U.S., nor has any message been sent.”

He further commented on ongoing discussions with European partners, noting, “We are waiting for the other side’s position. If we conclude that negotiations are necessary, they will be conducted on an equal footing. However, this is not our conclusion at the moment. We had an agreement before, but they broke it, and now the basis is distrust. Trust is not built through nice words; we need to see actions.”
