WANA (Apr 12) – On the eve of indirect talks with the U.S. President’s special envoy, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that “if the other side demonstrates sufficient will, a timeline for the negotiations will be determined.” He emphasized, “Our intention is to reach a fair and honorable agreement based on equality.”

Following his meeting with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi to discuss the arrangements for indirect talks with the U.S., Araghchi noted: “The team accompanying me on this trip consists of highly experienced and knowledgeable colleagues, all of whom have been involved in previous rounds of negotiations. We are participating with full seriousness.”

Reiterating Iran’s core position, Araghchi added: “If the U.S. approaches these talks with the same outlook, there is a real opportunity for an initial understanding that could lay the groundwork for further negotiations.”

He explained that this round of discussions would help clarify fundamental issues: “If both sides show enough political will, we can agree on a timeline — though it’s still too early to speak definitively about that. What’s clear so far is that the negotiations will be indirect and, from our perspective, focused solely on the nuclear issue. They must also aim to produce a fair outcome based on equality and ensure the national interests of the Iranian people.”

Araghchi arrived in Muscat, Oman, on April 12, 2025, accompanied by Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for International and Legal Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi, and senior negotiators on sanctions relief and nuclear issues.

As customary, Araghchi consulted with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi on the procedural details of the planned indirect negotiations. The Omani Foreign Minister is also scheduled to hold a similar meeting with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Affairs, on the same topic.
