Araji: “we don’t dismiss the activities of Mossad in Iraq”
WANA (Mar 15) – Following various statements by some officials from the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad regarding the presence of Israeli agents on Iraqi soil, ultimately, this issue has drawn the attention of a high-ranking security official of Iraq.
Qasim Al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, stated that he does not dismiss the activities of Mossad agents in Iraq.
Al-Araji’s remarks regarding the possibility of individuals with European, Australian, German, or American passports collaborating with Mossad in Iraq are notable and substantiated.
Previously, both before and after Iran’s missile attack on a base in the city of Erbil, which Iran claimed was the presence of Mossad forces, Al-Araji refuted the existence of Mossad forces in the location targeted.
The missile attack by the IRGC on Erbil in Iraq was part of a series of missile attacks carried out by the Revolutionary Guards on January 16, 2024. Iran claimed to have targeted a regional Mossad headquarters and several bases of terrorist groups in response to the suicide attack in Kerman.
According to some unofficial reports, Mossad agents cooperate with the United States under the cover of Washington consulate employees in Erbil.
Moreover, during various meetings, Iranian parties have presented reports and documents on the collaboration and communication between Israel, some officials in the northern Iraq region, and the leaders of Kurdish opposition groups supported by the Barzani dynasty to the relevant authorities in Erbil and Baghdad.
The revelation of Israel’s relations with some authorities in Erbil has no impact on the commitments of this region and Baghdad to implement the provisions of the Iran-Iraq security agreement fully.
The main obstacle to the full implementation of the agreement is the dependence of some officials in Erbil on foreign actors (the United States and Israel) and the lack of necessary control by the central government (Baghdad) over Erbil.
Tehran claims that, based on historical documents, the Zionists and Israeli security services have had a longstanding presence in Kurdistan. Since late 1958, a formal trilateral intelligence network consisting of Mossad, Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization, and Iran’s Intelligence and Security Organization (SAVAK) has been established, known as the “Three-Sided Spear.”
The French newspaper Le Figaro reported in January 2012 that Mossaagents trained Iranian exiles, mainly Kurds, in military and espionage tactics to carry out sabotage operations in Iran. Their training was conducted in Kurdish areas in northern Iraq. According to Le Figaro, part of this training was related to attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities and assassinating atomic scientists.
Kanaani, the spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, admitted at their first weekly conference after the missile attack on a base in Erbil that Tehran has repeatedly protested against the presence of Mossad forces in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, and this protest was conveyed openly or privately to the authorities of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and also the Iraqi government.
In recent years, Iranian authorities have warned the Iraqi government that the presence of Israelis in the north of this country is a factor of insecurity for Iran, and Tehran demands that Baghdad implement the security agreement between the two countries.
According to available information and based on statements from the Iranian side, many individuals who have carried out terrorist operations inside Iran have been trained in Kurdistan Iraq by Mossad or the Mujahideen-e Khalq organization and have entered Iran through the shared border.
