WANA (Aug 23) – Senior diplomats from Iran and Europe held consultations on Thursday evening to discuss topics of mutual interest.

 

Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, congratulated Seyed Abbas Araqchi on his appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran during a phone call.

Borrell expressed hope that political dialogue and consultations between Iran and the European Union would continue and expand under the new government, considering the existing regional and global challenges.

Araqchi, while thanking Borrell for his call and congratulations, highlighted the various areas of interaction between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the European Union. He stated that Iran welcomes the development of relations with the EU based on mutual respect, emphasizing that dialogue is necessary to resolve mutual issues and address the incorrect policies of European countries.

During the phone conversation, the two sides also exchanged views on several topics of mutual interest, including the negotiations on lifting sanctions and the latest developments regarding the war and the crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza.
