Araqchi Meets Iraqi President, Stresses Continued Dialogue for Regional Security and Stability
WANA (Dec 06) – Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid welcomed Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi in Baghdad today, holding talks on political and security developments, particularly in Syria.
During their meeting, both leaders emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue and coordination to preserve peace at regional and international levels.
According to a statement from the Iraqi Presidency, the discussions revolved around the political and security situation in the region, the developments in Syria, and their broader implications for regional stability.
President Rashid highlighted the need for intensified joint efforts and coordination to achieve security and stability in the region while safeguarding Syria’s territorial integrity and the well-being of its people. He underscored the importance of a strategic and well-considered approach to mitigate the rapid consequences of ongoing regional crises.
He reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to fostering stability in the region and supporting initiatives aimed at preventing the escalation of conflicts. Rashid added that Syria’s developments and their impact on the region are a matter of significant concern.
The Iraqi President also reiterated Iraq’s steadfast role in promoting international peace and security.
Araqchi, in turn, praised Iraq’s efforts to resolve conflicts and de-escalate tensions, contributing to the security, political, and economic stability of the region’s nations.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, in his meeting with Araqchi, reaffirmed Iraq’s official position supporting Syria’s unity, security, and stability.
