Araqchi’s Reaction to the EU’s Potential Decision to Sanction Iranian Shipping Lines
WANA (Nov 17) – The Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, referring to reports about the European Union’s potential decision to sanction Iranian shipping lines, stated, “There is no legal, logical, or ethical basis for any of these actions by the European Union.”
Seyed Abbas Araqchi, in a post on the social platform X, criticized some of the EU’s decisions and actions toward Iran. He wrote: “President Zelensky himself has confirmed that no Iranian ballistic missiles have been delivered to Russia. Nevertheless, the EU refuses to end its unjust targeting of air travelers through sanctions on Iranian airlines—an action apparently based on the unfounded claim of our missile deliveries to Russia.”
He further noted, “Now, the EU intends to use the same baseless pretext of missile exports to sanction our shipping lines.”
Highlighting the lack of any legal, logical, or ethical justification for such measures, Araqchi stated, “In reality, these actions lead to the very outcomes the EU claims to want to avoid.”
The senior Iranian diplomat emphasized, “Freedom of navigation is a fundamental principle of maritime law. When certain parties apply it selectively, the consequences of their short-sightedness often come back to haunt them.”
