WANA (Dec 10) – The Spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei, has Criticized the instrumentalization of human rights for political interests, warning that such practices threaten the integrity of the human rights framework.

In a post on his personal account on the social media platform X, Baghaei wrote:

“On Human Rights Day, humanity takes pride in its landmark achievement on 10 December 1948, when UNGA adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). However, the instrumentalization of human rights discourses for political interests plus double standards and selective treatments continue to pose the most consequential threat to human rights by seriously jeopardizing the integrity of the human rights framework.”

Baghaei highlighted the ongoing risks posed by double standards and selective applications of human rights, describing them as major obstacles to upholding human rights universally.
