Baghaei: Iran Delivered Clear and Unwavering Message of Support for Syria
WANA (Dec 03) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, discussed Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visits to Damascus and Ankara, highlighting Iran’s clear and firm message of support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and significant discussions held in Turkey.
Baghaei, speaking on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 28th ECO Ministerial Meeting in Mashhad, said that during Araghchi’s visit to Syria, the Islamic Republic of Iran conveyed a “very clear” message of its unwavering support for Syria against terrorism. Araghchi also received updates on the latest field developments in Syria.
Regarding Araghchi’s visit to Turkey, Baghaei emphasized that “important and clear” discussions took place between Iran and Turkey’s foreign ministers.
Baghaei underscored the need for regional cooperation to combat terrorism, describing it as a “contagious disease” that affects all nations if not addressed collectively.

ECO’s Role in Regional Cooperation
On the 28th ECO Ministerial Meeting, Baghaei emphasized that the organization, established in the 1960s and revitalized in the 1980s, focuses on enhancing economic cooperation among its 10 member states.
He added that Iran has chaired the council in 2024, and the meeting serves as a conclusion of its efforts over the past year, while also laying out plans for future initiatives.
The ECO’s role in fostering economic cooperation among neighboring countries with shared cultural and historical ties was highlighted, as Baghaei expressed the importance of regional partnerships in improving living conditions and countering unilateral trends in international relations.
Baghaei also spoke about the importance of Mashhad hosting this high-level meeting. He described the city as a unique and sacred place with exceptional economic, cultural, and commercial potential.
This event marks one of the first ministerial gatherings held outside the capital, Tehran. Baghaei expressed hope that such international opportunities would further showcase the capabilities of cities across Iran to the world.
