WANA (May 23) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Baghaei, provided an explanation on the fifth Round of indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. to the Iranian reporter.

Esmail Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said on Friday, prior to the start of the fifth round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States in Rome:

“The fifth round of indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. is a continuation of the process that began on April 11 in Muscat, and in fact, these negotiations are the continuation of an ongoing process.”

Referring to Iran’s seriousness at the negotiating table in advancing its interests, Baghaei noted: “Given the contradictory positions of American officials in recent times and the new round of sanctions against Iran, these issues will be raised clearly and transparently at the beginning of the indirect talks between Iran and the U.S.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson further stated: “The Iranian delegation will assertively and resolutely present our country’s rightful positions regarding the use of peaceful nuclear energy and the lifting of the cruel sanctions imposed on our country, and will pursue them at the negotiating table.”

He also said: “A few moments ago, the Iranian delegation, headed by the Foreign Minister, departed for the venue of the negotiations, which is in fact the residence of the Omani ambassador in Italy. Naturally, we must see what discussions unfold in the negotiation room and move forward accordingly with our positions and the process.”
