Beyzaei, Iranian University Professor Detained in Turkey
WANA (Apr 15) – Ali Akbar Velayati, head of the Board of Founders of the Islamic Azad University of Iran, has stated that Iranian cultural figure, university professor, and author Dr. Ahmadreza Beyzaei was recently detained in Turkey under what he described as “bizarre circumstances and without any logical justification.”
According to Velayati, the arrest took place on February 13, 2025, at Istanbul Airport, where Dr. Beyzaei was waiting to board a flight to Tehran with his family. “While at the airport, Turkish police deported Dr. Beyzaei’s family and arrested him without offering a clear explanation.”
Dr. Beyzaei is a professor at universities in Tabriz, and diplomatic efforts to secure the release of this Iranian academic have so far been unsuccessful.
Velayati emphasized that Iran has always stressed the importance of friendly relations with Turkey based on reason and mutually accepted legal principles. However, he stated that actions such as the arrest of this university professor are contrary to the law and rational diplomatic conduct.
He concluded by saying that he has called on officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intensify their efforts for Dr. Beyzaei’s release.
