WANA (Oct 23) – The leaders of the BRICS nations, gathered for their summit in Kazan, Russia, expressed concerns over escalating tensions in West Asia and condemned the actions of the Israeli regime.

 

On Wednesday, in the final communiqué of the BRICS summit, the member states condemned the Israeli regime’s attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria and the bombing of communication facilities in Lebanon.

 

According to the final statement adopted after the BRICS meeting in Kazan, the leaders expressed deep concern over military conflicts and instability in West Asia.

 

The BRICS nations also condemned attacks on UN personnel in Lebanon and threats to their security, calling on Israel to immediately cease such actions.

 

They stated: “We are concerned about the situation in southern Lebanon. We condemn the civilian casualties and the immense damage to civilian infrastructure caused by Israeli attacks on residential areas in Lebanon and call for an immediate halt to military actions. We strongly condemn these attacks and urge Israel to immediately stop its threats against the UN personnel.”

The BRICS countries also stressed the importance of fully implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) regarding Iran’s nuclear program.

 

The statement reads: “We emphasize the importance of the full implementation of the JCPOA under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and call for a constructive and good-faith approach by all relevant actors to resume full implementation of JCPOA commitments by all parties.”

 

Support for Palestine’s Full Membership in the UN

According to the final communiqué of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, the BRICS nations reiterated their support for granting full membership to Palestine in the United Nations.

 

The BRICS leaders also called for strengthening non-proliferation and disarmament regimes to maintain global stability and security, urging the swift implementation of resolutions for creating a nuclear and WMD-free zone in the Middle East.

 

The BRICS countries also advocated for greater participation of less developed countries, particularly in Africa, in global processes.

 

The statement reads: “We call for greater and more meaningful participation of less developed countries, especially in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, in global decision-making processes and structures, aligning them with contemporary realities.”

Need for Stronger Measures in Afghanistan

The BRICS leaders called for stronger measures in Afghanistan to prevent terrorists from using its territory.

 

The statement notes: “We emphasize the need for a peaceful and immediate resolution of the situation in Afghanistan to strengthen regional security and stability. We support an independent, united, and peaceful Afghanistan free from terrorism, war, and narcotics. We call for more visible and verifiable actions in Afghanistan to ensure that its territory is not used by terrorists.”

 

Revising International Financial Structures

The BRICS leaders also expressed support for ensuring long-term sustainability in space activities and preventing the weaponization of outer space.

 

“We express our support for the long-term sustainability of outer space activities and for preventing an arms race in space, including through negotiations for a multilateral legal instrument to ensure global security,” they said.

 

 

The BRICS countries recognized the legitimate security concerns of all nations.

 

The statement emphasizes: “We recognize the need for conflict prevention efforts, including addressing their root causes. We acknowledge the legitimate and reasonable security concerns of all nations.”

 

The BRICS countries also called for revising international financial structures to address the financial challenges facing the world today.

 

The statement reads: “We emphasize the need to reform the current international financial structure to address global financial challenges, including the governance of the global economy, making the international financial architecture more inclusive and equitable.”

Support for the Peace Process in Yemen

The BRICS nations called for continued support for dialogue and the peace process in Yemen under UN supervision.

 

The final communiqué notes: “We stress the importance of ensuring the rights and freedoms of navigation for ships of all countries in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in accordance with international law. We support diplomatic efforts by all parties, including addressing the causes of conflict and ongoing support for dialogue and the Yemeni peace process under UN supervision.”

 

Preventing and Combating Terrorist Threats

The BRICS leaders committed to taking decisive steps to curb the spread of terrorist ideologies and radicalization, as well as enhancing practical cooperation in combating terrorism.

 

In the final statement, it is declared: “We are committed to taking decisive measures to prevent and disrupt the spread of terrorist ideologies and radicalization, the misuse of modern technologies for terrorist purposes, the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorist financing, and other forms of terrorist support, as well as incitement to terrorist acts and the recruitment of foreign terrorist fighters.”

The BRICS countries pledged to enhance international and regional cooperation to prevent and counter terrorist threats “based on full respect for the sovereignty and security of countries, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.”

 

The leaders rejected efforts to politicize counter-terrorism issues and the use of terrorist groups to achieve political goals, urging the swift finalization and adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism.

 

They expressed concern over the increasing violence and ongoing armed conflicts in various parts of the world, reaffirming their commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes through diplomacy, mediation, inclusive dialogue, and consultation.

 

Attention to Mediation Proposals for Resolving the Ukraine Conflict

They also emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation based on common interests and further developing strategic partnerships. The BRICS nations expressed concern about the negative impact of illegal sanctions on the global economy and called for greater participation of less developed countries, particularly in Africa, in global processes.

 

 

The communiqué underscored the attention to mediation proposals for the peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict through dialogue, expressing concern over the worsening violence and humanitarian crisis in Sudan and calling for a ceasefire.

 

The BRICS leaders reaffirmed their commitment to multilateralism, the central role of the UN in the international system, and support for comprehensive UN reforms, including the Security Council, to ensure better representation.

 

The statement also welcomed the establishment of a transitional presidential council and an electoral council in Haiti to resolve the crisis.
