WANA (July 22) – Nasser Kanaani, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson of Iran, discussed the latest developments in foreign policy during a press conference at the “1,020 Days of Jihadi Efforts: Highlights of Foreign Policy Achievements” exhibition held at the Foreign Ministry.

In response to a reporter’s question about Europe and America’s lukewarm reaction to the election of Pezeshkian, he said: “I cannot confirm such an assessment. The holding of elections in Iran within 50 days after the tragic martyrdom of the president was a significant event that drew the attention of all countries, both small and large, as well as public opinion, governments, nations, and news media worldwide.”

This senior Iranian diplomat added: “The feedback we receive in the political and diplomatic spheres from various countries, including Europe, indicates their special attention to this event.”

He further stated: “Iran, in its foreign relations, aims to use all capacities to safeguard national interests and has given special attention to Europe as an important region in its foreign relations.”

Kanaani noted: “The coldness in relations or the underutilization of existing capacities is not the result of Iran’s approach, but rather their miscalculations or susceptibility to American policies. If Europe acts independently based on its national interests, we will see an improvement in Iran-Europe relations.”

He added: “We are gradually receiving messages from European officials addressed to the elected president. Based on dynamic diplomacy, mutual interests, and respect, Iran is ready to develop relations with all countries interested in expanding ties with Iran.”

The Zionist regime is a source of instability and insecurity in the region

In response to a question about the Zionist regime’s attacks on Yemen’s Al Hudaydah port, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the Zionist regime is a source of instability and insecurity, creating tension and perpetuating a cycle of tension in the region. What we have witnessed over the past ten months is the result of illegal and illegitimate attacks by this regime against Gaza, violating international laws.

Kanaani stated: “Calm will return to the region when the international community stops the Zionist regime’s war machine. Yemen’s National Salvation Government has declared that its actions in the Red Sea are in support of the Palestinian people.”

He added: “The international community has a responsibility to stand against this regime’s efforts to create insecurity in the region. As the unconditional supporter of this regime, the U.S. bears serious responsibility for its threatening actions and must prevent further escalation of tensions and crises in the region.”

Changes in U.S. administrations and individuals in leadership positions are inherently unimportant to us

In response to Biden’s withdrawal from the new U.S. elections, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said: “Changes in U.S. administrations and individuals in leadership positions are inherently unimportant to us. What is important is that for many decades, U.S. policies towards the Iranian government, nation, and system have been hostile. What can change the atmosphere of relations is a shift in the U.S. government’s hostile policies towards the Iranian nation.”

Responsible return of all parties, including the U.S., to the JCPOA

In response to a question about the revival of the JCPOA and the possibility of a new agreement, Kanaani stated: “What matters to us is the responsible return of all parties, including the U.S., to the JCPOA. Iran is the party that has fully adhered to and implemented its commitments. To revive the JCPOA, they must return to their commitments responsibly and faithfully.”

In response to another question, he said: “We oppose using human rights as a political tool against independent countries. Human rights are a sacred human issue that should not be overshadowed by the goals and policies of specific governments to impose their illegitimate demands on independent states. In recent years, we have witnessed the use of human rights as a political tool.”

The Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated: “Iran, based on Islamic values, historical traditions, and religious and ethical ideals, pays special attention to human rights, seeks to enhance its position, and considers itself committed to human rights principles. Those who use human rights as a tool must review their approaches more than anyone else and correct their wrong policies.”
