WANA (Apr 26) – Around 12:30 PM (local time) today, Saturday, April 26, a powerful explosion was heard at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, sparking concern among residents of the area and neighboring cities.

 

The explosion was so intense that it shook the ground and was felt in surrounding towns as well.

 

Details regarding the cause of the blast and the extent of possible damages have not yet been released. However, according to early reports, the explosion caused damage to the surrounding area and to some industries located in the western part of Bandar Abbas. So far, no official statement has been issued by authorities.

 

Multiple videos of the incident are circulating, showing large plumes of smoke and shattered glass. The smoke rising from the explosion site appeared orange and gray in color, suggesting that the blast may have involved chemical materials.

It has also been reported that an administrative building near the explosion site suffered damage, including broken windows. The main cause of the incident remains unconfirmed.

 

Emergency and firefighting teams have been dispatched to the scene, and more information will be provided as investigations continue.

 

The Director General of the Red Crescent Society of Hormozgan Province stated that rapid response teams were immediately sent to the scene. He added that the cause of the explosion has not yet been determined and is under thorough investigation.

 

The spokesperson for Iran’s Emergency Services also reported that injured individuals have been transferred to hospitals following the explosion at Shahid Rajaee Port. So far, the incident has resulted in more than 500 injuries.

 

 

Statement from the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC):

 

NIORDC announced that the explosion near Shahid Rajaee Port is not related to the refineries, fuel storage tanks, or oil pipelines managed by the company in the area.

 

Following news of the explosion and fire at the port, NIORDC clarified that operations at the nearby facilities are continuing without interruption.

 

All firefighting and emergency response teams from oil companies in the region have been placed on high alert and are assisting in managing the incident under the coordination of the Ports and Maritime Organization.

 

Customs Authority Statement: Additionally, the Customs Authority announced that the explosion occurred in the Sina Container Yard area within Shahid Rajaee Port, which is managed by the Ports and Maritime Organization.
