WANA (Jan 20) – Mohammad Javad Zarif has traveled to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (Davos 2025), raising suspicions about the goals of this trip.

This morning, Mohammad Javad Zarif left Iran for Switzerland to participate in the 55th World Economic Forum (Davos 2025). According to announcements from the government, in addition to participating in the summit’s programs and attending scheduled roundtables on various regional and global issues, Zarif is set to take part in one of the main sessions of the forum with Fareed Zakaria, the CNN host.

In past years, Iran’s Foreign Minister traditionally represented the country at Davos. For instance, last year, the late Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian participated in the summit.

Zarif’s presence at this summit as the Strategic Deputy to the President comes despite the fact that, according to parliamentary law, his appointment to this position is legally prohibited.

Hossein Kanani Moghadam, a political analyst, told Fars that Zarif’s unexpected presence in Switzerland raises suspicions of secret, unauthorized negotiations. He emphasized that any diplomatic developments should follow the standard process through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and within the framework of the laws of the Islamic Republic.

This political expert added that the involvement of an unrelated and legally unauthorized deputy in the country’s official foreign affairs constitutes a deviation from the rule of law.
