Dutch and Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Relations
WANA (Apr 02) – Kasparold Kamp, the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a phone conversation with Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, to discuss issues related to bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments.
During the call, the Dutch Foreign Minister expressed his concern over escalating tensions in the region and emphasized the need to resolve disputes through diplomatic solutions. He also urged Iran to play a role in ensuring the security of international shipping in the Red Sea.
Araghchi, for his part, reiterated Iran’s commitment to advancing its peaceful nuclear program in accordance with international legal frameworks. He stressed that Iran remains open to genuine negotiations on an equal footing and through indirect dialogue. However, he noted that such negotiations require a constructive atmosphere and the avoidance of intimidation, threats, and coercion.
The Iranian diplomat condemned the threatening statements from U.S. officials, calling them unacceptable, contrary to the principles of the UN Charter and international law, and a factor in further complicating the current situation. He warned that Iran would respond swiftly and decisively to any aggression against its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national interests.
Araghchi also criticized the European Union’s silence in the face of provocative rhetoric from U.S. officials, arguing that such statements pose a direct threat to international peace and security. He reminded all UN member states of their responsibility to uphold the rule of law on the global stage.
