WANA (Aug 25) – In a world constantly facing new political and social challenges, millions of people from around the globe embark on a journey that transcends borders and beliefs: the Arbaeen pilgrimage. This event, known as the largest religious gathering in the world, not only honors Imam Hussein (AS) but also reflects the unity of people who, despite their ethnic and cultural differences, come together for a common purpose.

This year’s slogan for the event, “Karbala, the Path to Al-Aqsa,” emphasizes the idea that the road to freedom and resistance against injustices passes through Karbala and the values of Imam Hussein (AS). However, this slogan is not just meaningful for Muslims; it carries a universal message that underscores shared human values: justice, standing against oppression, and striving for freedom.

Among the millions who walk this path each year, there are stories that go beyond geographical and religious boundaries. One such story is the encounter between two men who once faced each other on opposite sides during the Iran-Iraq war: Ebrahim Fakhari from Iran and Sayyid Abdul-Ali from Iraq.

These two men, who years ago were adversaries on the battlefield, have now met again along the Arbaeen pilgrimage route. This meeting is a reminder of past wounds but also demonstrates the human capacity to move beyond differences and find a path to coexistence and friendship.

Ebrahim Fakhari, who once endured hardship in Iraqi prisoner-of-war camps, now walks as a pilgrim on the land of those he once fought against. On the other side, Sayyid Abdul-Ali, who experienced captivity in Iran, now warmly welcomes this Iranian pilgrim. These two men, once sworn enemies, now sit together in a space filled with peace and serenity, revisiting memories that were once bitter with a newfound perspective.

This story is not just about two individuals; it represents a profound transformation in the relationship between two nations. A relationship that, despite a painful past, is now built on mutual respect and a shared effort to build a better future.

The Arbaeen pilgrimage, while commemorating a historical uprising, has become a stage for showcasing the power of unity and empathy. The slogan “Karbala, the Path to Al-Aqsa” delivers a clear message to the world: the path to justice and freedom lies in solidarity and resistance against oppression. This event demonstrates that even in a world full of conflicts and divisions, it is still possible to find common ground and build a better world.
