Ghalibaf’s Trip to Lebanon: A Show of Strength and Support for the Resistance Front
WANA (Oct 12) – Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, traveled to Beirut before heading to Geneva for the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting. During this visit, he met with Lebanese officials and reaffirmed Iran’s support for the Lebanese people and their resistance against Israeli aggression.
In a notable move, Ghalibaf personally piloted the plane carrying him for the landing at Beirut airport.
Upon arrival at the Beirut airport, Ghalibaf conveyed a message from the Supreme Leader and the Iranian people to the people of Lebanon, stating, “As always, we stand alongside the Lebanese people, government, and resistance, and we will continue to support them during difficult times as we have in the past.”
He also mentioned that during his upcoming trip to Geneva, he would relay the message of the oppression faced by the people of Gaza and Lebanon to the world, calling on countries to support these nations.
Meeting with Lebanon’s Prime Minister
During his visit, Ghalibaf met with Najib Mikati, Lebanon’s interim Prime Minister. Mikati highlighted the Lebanese government’s efforts for a ceasefire and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, urging the international community to pressure Israel to end its aggressions against Lebanon.
The two sides also discussed the latest developments in Lebanon, the refugee situation, and Iran’s humanitarian aid to the country.
Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran is ready to establish an air corridor to deliver aid to the war-torn people of Lebanon.
Visit to the Bombed Areas of Dahiyeh
One of the highlights of Ghalibaf’s trip was his visit to the bombed areas of Dahiyeh in southern Beirut, which have been repeatedly targeted by Israeli airstrikes. His presence in these devastated areas, and his renewed pledge of support for the resistance, prompted many residents who had left the area to return, chanting anti-Israeli slogans.
Lebanese social media users reported that Israeli drones were patrolling the skies during Ghalibaf’s visit to the area.
Condemning the crimes committed by the Israeli regime in the region, Ghalibaf stated, “Iran has always been and will continue to be a supporter of the Lebanese and Palestinian people. It is our duty to back and assist the people of Lebanon during these difficult times.”
Meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament
Ghalibaf also met with Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, and during a joint press conference, reiterated that Iran fully supports the Lebanese resistance and its people.
He conveyed the warm greetings of the Iranian people and government to the Lebanese people and assured them that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to stand by Lebanon and offer its support.
Departure to Geneva for the Inter-Parliamentary Union Meeting
At the end of his trip, Ghalibaf will travel to Geneva to attend the Inter-Parliamentary Union summit, where he intends to convey the message of the suffering of the Lebanese and Palestinian people to the international community.
He will once again call on the world not to remain silent in the face of the Israeli regime’s crimes and to come to the aid of the defenseless people in these regions.
