Gharibabadi Holds ‘Frank and Constructive’ Talks with Grossi
WANA (Mar 17) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs has reported a “frank and constructive” discussion with Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Kazem Gharibabadi announced the meeting in a post on X, stating, “I had a frank and constructive dialogue with the IAEA Director-General.”
During the talks, both sides discussed Iran-IAEA cooperation, the resolution of two outstanding issues, nuclear facility security, and the latest developments surrounding Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief.
Iran and the IAEA share a long history of cooperation, which, according to Gharibabadi, enables them to resolve minor disputes—provided that external political pressures on the agency cease and the International Atomic Energy Agency maintains an independent, technical, impartial, and professional approach.
“Iran remains committed to cooperating with the IAEA within the framework of its safeguard obligations while safeguarding its national security and interests,” he emphasized.
Additionally, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi described the meeting as “timely” in a post on X, stressing the need for credible assurances.
“Cooperation with the IAEA is indispensable for providing credible assurances regarding the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program,” Grossi stated.
Earlier on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei confirmed Gharibabadi’s visit to Vienna for discussions with the International Atomic Energy Agency officials.
