WANA (Sep 10) – In the coming days, Gharibabadi will be appointed as the Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lifting U.S. sanctions against Iran is one of the key objectives of the fourteenth government. Masoud Pezeshkian, the president of the fourteenth administration, stated during his inauguration ceremony: “I will not rest until the unjust sanctions are lifted. My government will never succumb to bullying, pressure, or double standards.”

More than two decades of negotiations with Iran should have led negotiating governments to realize that we have been and will continue to be committed to our obligations. However, the people, leadership, and political system of Iran do not respond to pressure and excessive demands.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, also commented on sanctions relief, saying: “Alongside neutralizing sanctions, another mission of ours is to work towards their removal, which is a special responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We are pursuing the lifting of sanctions in an honorable manner.”

It has been reported that the nuclear negotiations and sanctions relief desk will be established within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with Kazem Gharibabadi taking on this responsibility.

Gharibabadi, who is currently the Deputy Head for International Affairs at the Judiciary and the Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights Council, will soon be appointed as the Deputy Minister for Legal and International Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and will simultaneously take charge of the nuclear negotiations and sanctions relief.

During the final months of the twelfth administration, when Seyed Abbas Araghchi, as the Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, was responsible for the negotiations to revive the JCPOA in Vienna, Gharibabadi was serving as Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna. The JCPOA Joint Commission meetings in early 2021 were held with both diplomats representing the Islamic Republic of Iran.
