Grossi, IAEA Chief Visits Iran’s Nuclear Technology Exhibition
WANA (Apr 17) – Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, attended an exhibition showcasing Iran’s latest achievements in nuclear technology at the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) headquarters on Thursday.
Grossi toured the exhibition following a meeting with Mohammad Eslami, head of the AEOI. He was briefed on recent advancements in key areas, including the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear energy and power generation, heavy water production and its derivatives, radiopharmaceuticals, plasma technology, radiation applications, nuclear fusion, laser and quantum technologies, nuclear agriculture, industrial accelerators, and nuclear safety systems.
Grossi was accompanied by Eslami, Kazem Gharibabadi — Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs — and Behrouz Kamalvandi, Deputy Head of the AEOI.
Earlier, on Wednesday evening, Grossi held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. Following their meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced on the social media platform X that he had a “useful discussion” with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Araghchi expressed optimism about the IAEA’s potential role in the coming months. “The Agency can play a crucial role in the peaceful settlement of the Iranian nuclear file,” he stated.
Araghchi also warned of attempts to derail ongoing negotiations. “As a variety of spoilers are gathered to derail current negotiations, we need a Director General of Peace,” he wrote, emphasizing Iran’s hope that Grossi will remain committed to keeping the agency focused on its technical mandate and away from politicization.
Grossi also stressed the importance of mutual cooperation following his meeting with Araghchi.
