IAEA Chief: Iran’s Nuclear Program Is Relatively Under Control
WANA (Mar 15) – Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reiterated concerns about Iran’s nuclear activities, claiming that while the situation in the country remains “relatively controlled,” Iran is “on the verge of nuclear capability.”
Speaking in an interview on Saturday, Grossi responded to questions about Iran’s nuclear program and allegations that the country is close to achieving the capacity to produce nuclear weapons. He emphasized that Iran remains a permanent agenda item for the IAEA.
The IAEA chief further claimed that Iran has an “ambitious and extensive nuclear program,” enriching uranium to levels “close to military-grade.”
He also alleged that Iran’s nuclear history has been marked by ups and downs, with instances of non-compliance with international obligations leading to heightened tensions.
“In this period of extreme international fluctuations, particularly in the Middle East, the role of the IAEA in negotiations is absolutely crucial,” Grossi stated. “In Iran, we have a relatively controlled situation, though we are very close to the nuclear threshold.”
These remarks come as Iran has repeatedly insisted that its nuclear program is peaceful and remains under continuous monitoring and inspection by the IAEA.
