WANA (Aug 29) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in its latest confidential report, claims that Iran has increased its uranium reserves.

The report states that as of August 17, Iran possessed 164.7 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60%.

According to the IAEA, Iran has increased its enriched uranium reserves by 22.6 kilograms compared to the previous report from this organization in May.

IRAN’S NUCLEAR ACTIVITIES

In 2015, Iran reached a landmark agreement with the P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany), known as the JCPOA or the Iran nuclear deal. Under this deal, Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities, including uranium enrichment, in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

In 2018, the Trump administration withdrew the US from the JCP and reimposed sanctions on Iran. This led to increased tensions and Iran gradually reducing its commitments to the agreement.
