WANA (Aug 20) — In a press briefing on Tuesday, August 20, Iran’s Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir addressed international actions taken by the judiciary in response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

He condemned the act as a blatant example of state terrorism by the Israeli regime, which has been met with widespread global condemnation.

Jahangir expressed confidence that the resistance movement will deliver a strong and decisive response to those responsible for this terrorist act.

However, he emphasized that this does not negate the need for legal and diplomatic actions, both domestically and internationally, particularly by Iran.

He noted that domestically, the Attorney General has immediately opened a case, which is currently under investigation. On the international front, efforts are also ongoing.

Jahangir further stated that, on the international stage, Iran, through the United Nations and with the involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Judiciary’s International Affairs Division, has succeeded in convening a UN Security Council meeting on the matter.

Despite expressing skepticism about the council’s effectiveness due to its domination by imperialist forces, he stressed that Iran is leveraging all legal avenues available in the international arena. Currently, discussions are underway at both regional and international levels to determine an appropriate response to this crime.
