WANA (Jan 27) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, who was leading a high-ranking delegation to Kabul, met with Nuruddin Azizi, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan’s interim government, to discuss bilateral trade and economic ties. The two officials reviewed the current state of Iran-Afghanistan economic and trade relations and explored ways to expand their cooperation.

 

During the meeting, Azizi highlighted the longstanding relationship between the two nations, rooted in shared history, religion, language, and culture. He also expressed gratitude for Iran’s decades-long support in hosting millions of Afghan refugees.

 

Providing an overview of the latest developments in bilateral trade, Azizi underscored the importance of enhancing economic relations and resolving trade obstacles. He emphasized the necessity of operationalizing the Chabahar Port and facilitating transit through Bandar Abbas to boost regional trade.

 

Azizi also outlined Afghanistan’s investment potential, noting that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is committed to creating favorable conditions for industrial and economic growth and encouraging Iranian companies to invest in Afghanistan.

 

Foreign Minister Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation and utilizing the abundant opportunities for collaboration. He stressed that Iran supports the development of private sector activities in both countries, particularly in industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, and transit.

 

Following the meeting, a joint session of Iranian and Afghan business leaders and economic stakeholders was hosted by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce, with both ministers in attendance.
