WANA (Dec 28) – The foreign ministers of Iran and China emphasized that the Middle East belongs to its people and should not serve as a battleground for destructive external interference in pursuing geopolitical ambitions.

 

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Saturday. Araghchi, leading a high-level delegation, discussed bilateral and regional issues with his Chinese counterpart.

 

Strengthening Strategic Relations

The two officials reviewed the progress of strategic ties between their nations, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, energy, transportation, and economic cooperation. They reaffirmed the commitment of their leaders to deepen these relations under the framework of the Comprehensive Cooperation Program.

 

Araghchi highlighted the deep-rooted history between Iran and China as two ancient civilizations. He underscored Iran’s dedication to fully leveraging the vast potential for bilateral collaboration, with the 25-year cooperation roadmap serving as a cornerstone for expanding ties in diverse areas.

 

Wang Yi reiterated China’s recognition of Iran as a significant and active power in West Asia, praising its natural, geographic, and human capacities. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to further strengthening relations with Tehran.

 

Regional Security and Stability

Both ministers exchanged views on the latest political and security developments in West Asia, emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria. They called for a peaceful transition to inclusive governance that meets the aspirations of all segments of Syrian society while condemning chaos and insecurity in the region.

 

The ministers reiterated the importance of collaboration to combat terrorism, uphold the rule of law internationally, and advance multilateral frameworks such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

 

A Unified Vision for the Middle East

Araghchi and Wang stressed that “the Middle East belongs to its people and should not become a platform for destructive interference by external actors to achieve their geopolitical objectives.”

 

Additionally, Araghchi congratulated China on its upcoming presidency of the SCO in 2025 and expressed Iran’s readiness to collaborate closely with Beijing during its tenure.

 

This high-level meeting reinforced the growing strategic partnership between Iran and China while underlining their shared vision for a stable and self-reliant Middle East.
