WANA (Sep 17) – The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development and the Senior Aide to the Russian President held talks on completing the North-South transport and railway corridors.

 

“Igor Levitin,” Senior Aide to the Russian President and his Special Representative, during his tenth visit to Iran, met with “Farzaneh Sadigh,” Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, to discuss the completion of the North-South transport and railway corridors.

 

This meeting is part of the two countries’ efforts to strengthen infrastructure cooperation and develop international transport routes, which play a key role in enhancing regional economic and trade connectivity.

 

Levitin, who previously served as Russia’s Minister of Transport for eight years, emphasized the importance of rail transport logistics.

 

The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, in turn, stressed the necessity of maximizing the commercial use of the existing rail capacities.

The North-South Corridor, established by the agreement signed on September 12, 2000, between the governments of Iran, Russia, and India, has now been ratified by 13 countries, including Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkey, and Ukraine. It connects Northern and Western Europe, the Russian Federation, the Caucasus, the Persian Gulf (Western route), Central Asia, the Persian Gulf (Eastern route), and the Caspian Sea, as well as Iran and the Persian Gulf (Central route).
