Iran Calls for Immediate Global Action to Prosecute Leaders of the Occupying Regime
WANA (Dec 16) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the continuation of Israeli attacks on refugee shelters in Gaza and urged the international community to take immediate action to stop the genocide and prosecute the leaders of the occupying regime for their heinous crimes.
Esmail Baqaei, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, condemned in the strongest terms the brutal attacks by the Israeli regime on the residences and tents of Palestinian refugees in Gaza, including the bombing of the Al-Nuseirat camp, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens of innocent people, including children.
Describing the ongoing inaction of international organizations and the UN Security Council as “shameful,” Baqaei attributed it to the United States’ comprehensive support for Israel. He called for urgent measures by the global community to halt the genocide in Gaza and hold the leaders of the occupying regime accountable for their egregious crimes.
The Iranian spokesperson reminded the international community of rulings issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute and arrest senior Israeli officials on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. He emphasized the responsibility of ICC member states to enforce these arrest warrants and the duty of all states, under customary international law, to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law and the prevention of genocide. He stated that the Israeli regime is not only guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity but has also undoubtedly committed two other crimes under the ICC’s jurisdiction: genocide and the crime of aggression.
Baqaei further criticized Israel’s disregard for rulings by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), including orders to halt acts of genocide and refrain from violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. He underlined the need for the international community to adopt effective measures to impose costs on the occupying regime for its continued violations of the law and to compel it to comply with the UN’s judicial decisions.
