WANA (May 07) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep concern over the rising tensions between neighboring countries India and Pakistan, calling on both sides to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.

Iran Urges Peaceful Resolution

On Wednesday, Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is seriously concerned about the recent deterioration in relations between the two South Asian nations. He urged both governments to refrain from hostile actions and seek peaceful means to resolve disputes.

Baghaei emphasized Iran’s principled stance on respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the importance of avoiding the use of force in international relations.

He noted that both India and Pakistan are long-standing friends of Iran, and any escalation in conflict between them is a source of serious concern for Tehran.

He also voiced hope that both parties would act with restraint, work towards de-escalation, and prevent third parties—particularly the Israeli regime—from exploiting the situation for their own interests.

India Launches Strikes After Kashmir Attack

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply after India carried out targeted missile strikes on Tuesday night against what it described as “terrorist bases” in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

In an official statement, the Indian government announced that its military had struck nine locations in the region, claiming the sites were being used as terrorist hideouts. “We delivered precise blows to terrorist bases. Justice has been served,” the Indian Army said in a separate statement.

Deadly Attack in Pahalgam Triggers Retaliation

The strikes came in response to a deadly terrorist attack last week in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed at least 27 people. Indian officials have labeled the incident a terrorist attack and accused Pakistan of involvement.

Pakistan Condemns Indian Aggression

In response, Pakistani Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar strongly condemned India’s actions, calling them a blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, the United Nations Charter, and international law. “This aggression endangers regional peace,” he warned.

Senator Dar added that Pakistan reserves the right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and declared, “We will defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity with full force.” In this regard, Pakistan, in turn, reported that it had responded to India’s actions.
