Iran Condemns Canada-led UN Human Rights Resolution Against Tehran
WANA (Nov 21) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, denounced the adoption of an anti-Iran resolution by the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee under the pretext of human rights, calling it a “blatant example of using human rights as a political tool for illegitimate purposes.”
“This resolution, spearheaded by Canada, the United States, Germany, the UK, and other Western countries—many of whom are themselves violators of human rights and accomplices in the Israeli regime’s genocide against Palestinians—is the height of hypocrisy,” Baghaei said on Thursday, December 21, 2024. “It reflects the deliberate reduction of the noble concept of human rights to a mere instrument of political pressure against independent nations.”
He further emphasized Iran’s commitment to upholding and advancing human rights, stating, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort in preserving and promoting human rights.”

Baghaei highlighted the role of Israel in drafting and endorsing the resolution, labeling it a “political and moral disgrace” for its Western sponsors. “This collaboration underscores their disregard for the sanctity of human rights and their efforts to strip international institutions of their original purpose,” he added.
“Iran, as a democratic system rooted in its constitutional principles, considers itself bound to uphold human rights and honor its international obligations,” Baghaei affirmed.
“We have maintained constructive engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, including the Office of the High Commissioner and treaty bodies, and will continue this cooperation moving forward.”
