WANA (Mar 09) – Tehran has strongly condemned Canada’s government’s decision to impose new sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities, calling the move politically motivated and a violation of international law.

Issa Kameli, Assistant to the Foreign Minister and Director-General for the Americas at Iran’s Foreign Ministry, denounced the sanctions as “deceptive and unlawful,” arguing that they contradict the principles of the UN Charter and international trade regulations. He asserted that such measures infringe on the rights of the Iranian people and hold Canada internationally accountable.

Kameli further accused Canada of being a major human rights violator, citing its “complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people.” He urged Canadian officials to focus on rectifying their own domestic and foreign policies instead of making baseless accusations against other nations.

He also called on Canada to cease its “systematic colonial eradication of Indigenous populations” and to take responsibility for its involvement in war crimes committed by Israel.

Rejecting what he described as “repeated and irresponsible claims” about Iran’s alleged interference in the Ukraine conflict, Kameli reiterated that “repeating a lie does not make it true.”

He emphasized that Iran has had no involvement in the war and has consistently advocated for a diplomatic resolution through negotiations between the conflicting parties.
