Iran Condemns Israeli Strikes on Residential Areas in Damascus
WANA (Nov 16) – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned Israeli airstrikes on residential areas in Damascus, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Syrian and Palestinian citizens. The attacks also caused significant damage to infrastructure, including roads and bridges connecting Syria and Lebanon.
In a statement issued on Friday, spokesperson Esmail Baghaei expressed condolences to the Syrian government, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, and the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to the injured.
He described Israel’s expansion of aggression into neighboring countries as a gross violation of Syria’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty, which constitutes an outright act of aggression under the UN Charter. Baghaei called for urgent action by the United Nations Security Council to halt Israel’s attacks and hold the regime accountable.
Baghaei further warned of the catastrophic consequences of Israel’s ongoing assaults on civilian infrastructure and the mass killing of innocent people, including women and children.
He labeled these actions as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and as war crimes under the 1949 Geneva Conventions, for which all states bear the responsibility to prevent and prosecute the perpetrators.
Additionally, Baghaei accused those providing weapons to Israel of being accomplices in the regime’s crimes, specifically naming the United States as the largest military and political supporter of Israel, and called on the people of the region and the Muslim Ummah to recognize the U.S. as complicit in these atrocities.
