Iran Condemns New U.S. Sanctions Over Iran’s Energy Sector
WANA (Oct 13) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the latest U.S. sanctions on Iran’s energy sector, calling them “illegal and unjustified.” The sanctions were reportedly imposed in response to defensive actions by Iran’s armed forces against Israeli military targets.
Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, described Iran’s missile operations against Israel as a legitimate exercise of self-defense under international law.
He rejected the U.S. sanctions, which target several companies and vessels allegedly involved in the transfer of Iranian oil products, as baseless and illogical. Baghaei characterized the sanctions as a form of “Ransom” to Israel.
Baghaei also highlighted the destructive role the U.S. has played in the security and stability of West Asia, stating that as Israel’s primary political backer and main supplier of weapons used in Gaza’s genocide and aggression against Lebanon, the U.S. is complicit in the region’s most egregious international crimes.
He warned that imposing sanctions on Iran under the pretext of supporting Israel not only makes the U.S. internationally accountable, but also emboldens the Israeli regime to continue its violence, further threatening regional and global peace and security.
Reaffirming Iran’s right to respond to the U.S. sanctions, Baghaei emphasized that the American regime’s addiction to policies of maximum pressure and threats against the Iranian people will not weaken the Islamic Republic’s resolve to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interests, and citizens against any form of aggression.
