WANA (Feb 26) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the U.S. government’s recent decision to impose sanctions on several vessels, individuals, and entities accused of involvement in Iran’s crude oil trade.

In a statement, Esmaeil Baghaei asserted that economic and trade relations between countries are part of their sovereign right to determine their own destiny, and no external party has the authority to disrupt or interfere in such interactions under political pretexts.

“The imposition of new sanctions by the United States against Iran’s foreign trade is a blatant violation of the principles outlined in the UN Charter, particularly the principles of national sovereignty and self-determination,” Baghaei stated.

He further described the move as an “unlawful, unjustified, and illegitimate action” that contravenes international laws governing free trade and constitutes a violation of the Iranian people’s human rights, making the U.S. government internationally accountable.

Baghaei also criticized recent U.S. officials’ claims of willingness to engage with Iran, calling the new sanctions the clearest evidence of Washington’s insincerity. He described them as an explicit sign of American policymakers’ hostility toward Iran’s economic growth and prosperity.

Emphasizing Iran’s resilience, he affirmed that despite the U.S.’s history of hostile and interventionist policies, as well as repeated breaches of commitments, the Iranian nation will continue on its path of progress, dignity, and independence.
