WANA (July 29) – Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, congratulated Nicolás Maduro on his successful re-election in Venezuela through a message shared on his official social media account.

Kanaani stated, “We congratulate the people and government of Venezuela, as well as the newly elected President Nicolás Maduro, on the successful conduct of the presidential election.”

He added, “Despite certain threats and unjust sanctions imposed on Venezuela, this election, marked by broad public participation and the supervision of hundreds of international observers from various countries, institutions, and organizations, signifies the entrenchment of democracy in the country.”

The spokesperson emphasized, “The Islamic Republic of Iran reaffirms its support and solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in advancing national development programs and strengthening bilateral cooperation.”

The Venezuelan Electoral Commission announced early Monday that Nicolás Maduro secured 51.2% of the vote in the presidential election, earning him a third term as President.

Earlier, Maduro’s office had declared his victory but urged supporters to wait for the official results from the country’s Electoral Council.

Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Caracas reported that a number of citizens headed towards the Presidential Palace to celebrate Maduro’s re-election.

Additionally, election observers from South Africa stated that the voting process in the Venezuelan presidential election was free, fair, and transparent.
