WANA (Nov 21) – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the United States for vetoing a United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, describing it as “a license granted by the U.S. to Israel to continue killings in Gaza and Lebanon.”

In a post on the social media platform X on Thursday, Iran’s spokesperson Esmail Baghaei strongly criticized the U.S. action, stating that despite widespread international demand to halt the “genocide” and the support of 14 nations for the resolution, the U.S. Democratic administration blocked its adoption.

Baghaei accused the U.S. of continuing its “13-month complicity” in what he referred to as the “genocide in Gaza,” highlighting its disregard for innocent lives and regional peace.

“This shameless veto is not only another failure for the UN Security Council in fulfilling its duties under the Charter but also serves as a license issued by the U.S. for Israel to carry on its killings in Gaza and Lebanon,” Baghaei said.

The Iranian official further labeled the veto as a blatant violation of fundamental principles of international law, including the obligation to respect and ensure respect for international humanitarian law, as well as the provisions of the Genocide Convention.

In his concluding remarks, Baghaei emphasized that the U.S. bears international responsibility for its role and complicity in what he described as “heinous crimes.”
