WANA (Sep 17) – The heads and deputies of the nuclear safety authorities of Iran and Russia held a meeting to explore ways to enhance mutual cooperation.

 

On the sidelines of the 68th annual session of the IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Mohammad Reza Kardan, Deputy Head of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization, met with Alexander Trembitsky, Head of Russia’s Federal Environmental, Industrial, and Nuclear Supervision Service to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in nuclear safety.

 

During the discussions, the Russian side welcomed Iran’s proposal to establish a network of nuclear regulatory bodies among BRICS member states.

 

The proposal was agreed to be brought forward at the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. Additionally, Trembitsky, as the head of the SMR Reactor Safety Working Group, invited his Iranian counterpart to participate as an observer in the group.

 

The 68th annual IAEA General Conference began on September 16 in Vienna and will continue until September 19.
