WANA (Nov 29) – Two advanced Iranian-made robotic surgery systems have been installed and launched in Indonesia, marking another milestone in the growing scientific and technological cooperation between the two nations.

These cutting-edge systems, developed by Iran’s Sina Robotics and Medical Innovators Company, have been set up at Wahidin Hospital in Makassar and Adam Malik Hospital in Medan.

Previously, two other robotic surgery systems by the same company were successfully installed in hospitals in Bandung and Yogyakarta, where they are actively being used.

This collaboration stems from a memorandum of understanding on scientific and technological cooperation signed during President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to Indonesia in June 2023.

Following this agreement, bilateral engagements have intensified. Notably, during a visit by an Indonesian Ministry of Health delegation to Tehran last year, six cooperation agreements were signed between Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Indonesian medical universities. Two of these agreements specifically focused on establishing robotic surgery training centers in Makassar and Medan.

Iran’s late President Raisi’s official visit to Jakarta in June 2023, at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, further solidified these ties. During this visit, Iran’s export of a robotic surgery system to Indonesia, showcased through a promotional video in meetings between the two leaders, significantly highlighted the potential for deeper scientific and medical collaboration.

The Sina Robotic Surgeon, one of Iran’s key innovations, was first unveiled at the second International Exhibition of Technology and Innovation (INOTEX 2015) in Tehran. It now stands as a symbol of Iran’s advancements in medical technology and its growing influence in the global healthcare sector.
